Periyasekkadu used to be a part of Madhavaram Municipality in Thiruvallur district. In 2011, Madhavaram Municipality was merged with Chennai Corporation. Periyasekkadu comes under ward 28 in Zone 3 (Madhavaram) of Chennai Corporation.
