Platte River State Park is a state park of Nebraska, USA, situated on the southern bluffs above the Platte River. It is located 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Louisville, Nebraska, and midway between Omaha and Lincoln. The park has a relatively steep, rolling topography compared to the surrounding region. Combined from several different areas, the park consists of 418 acres (169 ha) and most of it is forested. Two observation towers provide views of the Platte River valley, the taller of which rises 85 feet (26 m) above its base.[2] The park is located near several other tourist attractions including Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, the Strategic Air and Space Museum, the Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari, and several golf courses.
Recreation
The park has a swimming pool and tennis courts, as well as 10 miles (16 km) of hiking trails. Guided trail rides are available daily during the summer. A small (1 acre (0.40 ha)) lake provides fishing opportunities for people 15 years old and under, and visitors can also rent paddleboats; however, private boats are not permitted on the lake. A small restaurant is open during the summer and there is also a rentable year-round facility which can accommodate up to 150 people. The park has a visitor center with several exhibits, and a free family friendly movie is provided at an outdoor amphitheater on Saturdays during the summer. An arts and crafts center has experts that teach basic leatherwork and ceramics. 135 picnic tables and over 80 grills are scattered throughout the park. There is also a ballfield.[2] A shooting range for rifles, trap, and archery was constructed in 2011.
Overnight use
Though the park does not allow RV, tent camping is available, and there are 21 year-round full-service cabins available for rent. Another 31 camper cabins are available during the warmer months at lower cost as they provide only a refrigerator, and bathrooms and showers are shared at several centralized outer structures. Tepees with wooden floors are also available for rent during the warmer months.[2]
