Sidney Patrick Crosby ONS (born August 7, 1987) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player and captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Born in Cole Harbour Sidney began playing hockey on his own in his basement at two years old. At fourteen, he appeared on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Hockey Day in Canada, and scored 217 regular season and playoff points to lead his Midget AAA team, the Dartmouth Subways, to second place in the Air Canada Cup.

Lieutenant Harold Lothrop Borden, (23 May 1876 - 16 July 1900) was from Canning, Nova Scotia and the only son of Canada's Minister of Militia and Defence, Frederick William Borden. He became the most famous Canadian casualty of the Second Boer War.[1] Queen Victoria asked F. W. Borden for a photograph of his son, Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier praised his services, tributes arrived from across Canada, and in his home town a monument was erected to his memory.[2]

Mona Louise Parsons (1901-1976) was born in Middleton, Nova Scotia and became an early member of the Dutch resistance network in Holland during the Nazi-occupation. She became the only Canadian female civilian to be imprisoned by the Nazis, and one of the first—and few—women to be tried by a Nazi military tribunal in Holland.

She received a commendation for her bravery in helping Allied airmen evade capture from both Air Chief Marshall Lord Arthur Tedder of the Royal Air Force on behalf of the British people, and from General Dwight Eisenhower, expressing the gratitude of the American people.[3]

Francis Joseph Fitzgerald (1869-1910) was a Novascotian who became a celebrated Boer War veteran and the first commander of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police detachment at Herschel Island in the Western Arctic (1903). From December 1910 until February 1911, he led a mail patrol from Fort McPherson southward to Dawson City. When the patrol did not arrive in time, a search party was sent which found the bodies of Fitzgerald and the other patrol members. The trip became known as "The Lost Patrol".Read more...
