Raymond L. "Ray" Kotcher (born 1951) is an American business executive. Kotcher served as CEO of the public relations company, Ketchum Inc. from 2000 to 2012,[1] when he was named chairman. In 2016, he stepped down from the position and remains a non-executive chairman and advisor to Ketchum Inc.[2]

Education

Kotcher received his B.A. in English from the State University of New York College at Geneseo and received his Master of Science in Public Relations from the Boston University College of Communication in 1983.[3][4]

Career

In 1983, Kotcher began working at Ketchum Inc. and served as president of the company beginning in 1992.[2] Kotcher was named CEO of the company in 2000. During his tenure as CEO, Ketchum received two Agency of the Year awards from PRWeek,[5] Kotcher also helped launch the company's intranet, MyKGN and is credited with overseeing the company's global expansion as it merged with its sibling company, Pleon in 2009.[6][7] Following the merger, Kotcher remained CEO of the company before being named chairman in 2012.[8][9] In 2016, Kotcher left his chairman role and continued to serve as a non-executive chairman and advisor to Ketchum Inc. and its parent, the DAS Group of Companies.[2] Kotcher also serves as a professor at Boston University College of Communication.[10]

Kotcher has served as a trustee to the Geneseo Foundation and the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) and the Arthur W. Page Society. He has served two terms as chair of the PR Council,[11] and serves on the PRSA Foundation's board of trustees.[12][13] Kotcher has also been included in PRWeek's Power List, which includes the top 50 most important leaders in the public relations industry.[14] In 2014, Kotcher was awarded the Alexander Hamilton Medal for lifetime achievement by IPR.[5] In January 2016, Kotcher joined the PRSA National Board ex-officio, and began serving as a senior counselor.[15]
