Robert Small is the President and Executive Producer of Robert Small Entertainment, a television and film production company based in New York City.[1]

In the late 1980s Small and Jim Burns co-created MTV Unplugged. For his work as Co-creator and Executive Producer on MTV Unplugged, Small was nominated for three prime-time Emmys during the 1993-94, 1994-95, and 1995-96 Emmy Awards.[2][3]

Small is credited as an Executive Producer on various projects including AETN's Bio series, TV Land's Top Ten, Comedy Central's Pulp Comics and Vh1's Hard Rock Live.[4] Robert has won the Peabody Award for his work on MTV Unplugged, the Cable Ace Award, 8 Tellys and 11 International Film and Television Awards for various projects.

In 2007, Small wrote and directed his first independent documentary feature, Something Out of Nothing, which discusses the world of urban theatre. In 2008 Something Out of Nothing was featured at the Urbanworld Film Festival,[5] DeadCENTER Film Festival,[6] Black Soil Film Festival,[7] ITVFest (Independent Television Festival)[8] and the San Francisco Black Film Festival[9]

In the summer of 2008, Small teamed up with Worldwide Biggies as an Executive Producer for the First Annual Worldwide Fido Awards for Nick at Nite.[10] RSE continues its work in comedy, music, biographies and documentary production.

The PULP Comics series for Comedy Central aimed to give comedians a short film connection to their stand up material in the same show. It ran for three years. RSE also produced specials for HBO and A&E television worldwide.

Robert Small has also directed several documentaries and television specials including Back from Hell: A Tribute to Sam Kinison (2010) and I Ain't Scared of You: A Tribute to Bernie Mac (2012).

In 2013 He became the Producer of The Woodstock Comedy Festival. An annual 3 day charity event featuring films, stand-up performances, panels and discussion about comedy past and present.

He is also currently the Director of The Macaulay Honors College New Media Lab in NYC, part of CUNY
