Robin Chatterjee

Robin Chatterjee is an Indian music director who has scored music for more than a hundred films. Starting from 1948 film 1948 film Samapika, he has composed music for evergreen soundtracks such as Godhuli, Bipasha, Sagarika, Mayamrigo etc.[1][2]

Career

In 1955, he composed music for the film Godhuli which contained a song Piya Piya Piya Ke Dake Amare. In 1957, he composed music for Uttam-Suchitra starrer superhit Sagarika. In that film, Shyamal Mitra sang "Amar Swapne Dekha Rajkanya".[3]

In the 50s and 60s, Chatterjee frequently composed scores for director Agradoot, including:[4]

  • Sabar Upore (1955). Songs in the film included “ghum ghum chand jhikimiki tara” sung by Sandhya Mukherjee and “kataro aghate chino paye rokto jhore” sung by Dhananjoy Bhattacharya.
  • In Pathe Holo Deri (1957), Sandhya Mukherjee sung Chatterjee's “e sudhu ganer din”, “ei chayaghera logone aaj ke dake amar” and “tumi naa hoy rohite kache”.
  • Lalubhulu. All the songs in the film had been sung by classical singer Manobendra Mukherjee, including “ei pranjharona jaglo”, “dukkho amar shesh kore dao prabhu”, “dukher pothe namli Jodi”, “akash o mor alloy decho bhore”, “jaar hiya akasher neel nilimay” and “surjo tomar prothom toron kholo”.
  • Bipasha, with Sandhya Mukherjee’s song “klantir poth Jodi ba phuralo mor”, and “ami sapne tomay dekhechi”.

Collaborations

Chatterjee worked with many Bengali singers, such as Hemant Kumar, Manna Dey, Shyamal Mitra, Aarti Mukherji, Sandhya Mukhopadhyay, Pratima Banerjee, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Geeta Dutt, Arundhati Holme Chowdhury and Utpala Sen.
