Sandeep or Sundeep (Devanagari: सन्दीप् sandīp or संदीप् saṃdīp) is a popular Nepali and Indian name. It can be divided into two elements: sat (or saṃ) and dīp. Sat refers to goodness or virtue, and dīp refers to a light. Saṃdīp, or Sandeep, is formed when these two syllables are combined through the grammatical process of sandhi. Thus, Sandeep is interpreted to mean "a virtuous light."

The name also sometime refers to "Light God". The name may also refer to enlightenment: the word saṃdīpa in Sanskrit can mean "enlightened." It is also possible that the name is derived from Sāndīpani Muni, the guru of Krishna. It is primarily used by men and women from Hindu or Sikh backgrounds.
