Sandringham College is a multi campus secondary college located in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria.

Campuses

Sandringham College is made up of the following campuses:

  • Beaumaris 7-10 campus (formerly Beaumaris High School), located on the corner of Reserve and Balcombe roads in Beaumaris. Student population of approximately 150.
  • Sandringham 7-10 Campus (formerly Highett Campus and Highett High School), on Bluff Rd, Sandringham. Population of approximately 435.
  • Senior Campus (formerly Sandringham Campus and Sandringham Technical School), located on Holloway Rd, Sandringham. Student population of approximately 760.

The Beaumaris and Sandringham Junior campuses cater for students in years 7-10 whilst the Senior campus is designed for the education of students studying for their VCE VCAL and Vocational Education and Training(VET) studies. The Senior campus is known for its 'young adult environment' which encourages creativity, self-discipline and an 'adult' relationship between students and their teachers. In addition, it has a great international program, with sister schools in Britain and in Asia.

The school is known for its outstanding music and arts programs along with one of the largest range of subjects in the state, attracting many students from a wide area of South East Melbourne.[citation needed]

Architecture and History

All three campuses of Sandringham College were designed by the Public Works Department of Victoria and built in the Light Timber Construction style.

  • Beaumaris High School was constructed in 1958 with extensions made in 1960 (Arts Classrooms) and 1967 (Science Wing, incomplete).
  • Highett High School was constructed in 1955 with Stage 2 extensions made in 1957 and 1960.
  • Sandringham Technical School had two LTC wings constructed in 1955.

All three campuses are clad in grey cement tiles and with minor alternations, all buildings remain intact. The Beaumaris Campus Trade Wing which housed Woodwork, Metalwork, Machine Shop practices and the Canteen, was demolished in the mid/late 90s. It was located east of the science wing, which currently is a grass area. The Canteen is now a separate building adjacent the Library Building. The Library was converted into Woodwork Room for a short time, but since has been changed back to a Library. A small section of the science wing on the Beaumaris campus was never completed. This is indicated by a temporary finish on external walls where the classrooms were to be built and a pitched corridor roof. This space is currently used to store bicycles.
