Suniva Inc. is a U.S. manufacturer of high-efficiency silicon solar cells and high-power solar modules.[1] Suniva's corporate headquarters and manufacturing plant, with a capacity of 170 MW, are located in Norcross, Georgia.[2]

History

Suniva spun out of Georgia Institute of Technology's University Center of Excellence in Photovoltaics and the work of Dr. Ajeet Rohatgi in 2007.[3] Dr. Rohatgi is the founder and director of the photovoltaic (PV) research program at Georgia Tech (since 1985) and the founding director of the U.S. Department of Energy-funded University Center of Excellence in Photovoltaics (UCEP).[4] Suniva built its first manufacturing plant in Norcross, GA in 2008, which had an initial production capacity of 32 MW. It expanded capacity to 64 MW in 2009 and is now at a capacity of 170 MW.[5]

Products

Suniva announced in February 2011 that it is using ion implantation in the manufacture of its ARTisun Select solar cells. The company partnered with Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates to eliminate processing steps in the mass production of n-type cells.[6]
Solar Cells

  • ARTisun Series 3bus – Efficiencies of 17.4% to 18.2% [7]
  • ARTisun Select – Efficiencies of 18.2% to 19.2% [8]

Solar Modules

  • ART245-60 Monocrystalline Solar Module - Module efficiency conversion of 15+% [9]
  • Optimus 260 Monocrystalline Solar Module - Delivers module efficiency conversion of 16.0+ [10]

Installations

Suniva has recently announced a number of projects, spanning from small rooftop installations to multi-megawatt solar fields.
