The Taungyo (Burmese: တောင်ရိုး လူမျိုး) are a sub-ethnic group of the Bamar people living primarily in Shan State and centered on Pindaya.[1]

Language

They speak a dialect of the Burmese language similar to Arakanese.[2]

A sample of Taungyo dialect vocabulary include the following:[2]

  • red - anak
  • high - amrang (အမြင့်)
  • eye - myak-sai (မျက်စေ့)
  • light - lang (လင်း)
