Vivaldo Belcalzer (before 1250 – 14th century), was an Italian notary and councillor of Mantua.

Biography

Little historical information can be found of this political adviser of Guido Bonacolsi, lord of Mantua from 1299 to 1309. He enjoyed great esteem, so much so that in 1294 he was nominated among the twelve "elders" who governed the city of Mantua.

Belcalzer sole known work is his compendium and translation into the Mantuan dialect of De Proprietatibus Rerum, an encyclopaedia of theology and science in nineteen books by Bartholomaeus Anglicus.[1]
