Washington Galleries bus station serves the town of Washington, Tyne and Wear, England. It was opened in October 2008 replacing the previous bus station and was re-built as part of the redevelopment of the town's Galleries shopping centre. This facility cost £2 million [1] and provides easier public transport access to the shopping centre.
Prudential Property Investment Managers, the owners of the shopping centre, manage this bus station together with Go North East who operate the travel centre. Nexus, Tyne and Wear's Passenger Transport Executive provide the information for the bus station (timetables and real time information). There are 6 stands and the main operators are Go North East.
Services
Buses go from this bus station around the Washington new town and Houghton-le-Spring areas. Services also go as far afield as Sunderland, South Shields, Gateshead, Newcastle, Stanley and Durham.
The nearest station on the Tyne and Wear Metro light rail network to Washington Galleries bus station is the Heworth Interchange. There is a regular connection bus service, Connections 4, operated by Go North East. Buses from this bus station also connect to Gateshead Interchange also on the Metro network.
National Express coach service 425 between Newcastle and London stops at here once per day in each direction.
Also in Washington there is the Concord Bus Station situated in the north east of the town.
