Waverly is a city in Union County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 297 at the 2000 census. Founded in 1870, the city was named for founder Hugh McElroy's nephew.

There were 133 housing units at an average density of 499.8 per square mile (190.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.28% White and 5.72% African American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.34% of the population.

There were 126 households out of which 27.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.9% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% were non-families. 28.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.92.

In the city the population was spread out with 21.2% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
