List of active separatist movements in Oceania

This is a list of currently active separatist movements in Oceania. Separatism includes autonomism and secessionism. What is and is not considered an autonomist or secessionist movement is sometimes contentious. Entries on this list must meet three criteria:

  1. They are active movements with living, active members.
  2. They are seeking greater autonomy or self-determination for a geographic region (as opposed to personal autonomy).
  3. They are the citizen/peoples of the conflict area.

Under each region listed is one or more of the following (except for The United States which only has the last one):

    • Militant organisation: Free Aceh Movement (negotiated peace with the Indonesian government in 2005, and now it is a civil movement, but the separatism still has supporters)

Initiative by the Cook Islands Ariki which considers both the Cook Islands' previous status as a British protectorate and its current status as associated state of New Zealand to be illegitimate. Aims to set up the Cook Islands as a sovereign state independent of both the United Kingdom and New Zealand.[14]
