M. Roy Wilson (born November 28, 1953 in Yokohama, Japan[1]) is the President of the Wayne State University.[2]

Early/Personal Life
Born in Yokohama, Japan on November 28, 1953 to an African-American father and a Japanese mother. Most of M. Roy Wilson’s childhood was spent in Japan.[3] M. Roy Wilson has been married twice prior to his recent marriage to Jacqueline Page at the St. Regis Monarch Beach hotel in Orange County, Calif. In 2011, they met at a public event while Wilson was president and chairman of the board of Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Los Angeles. Before they married, Wilson moved to Detroit with Page, and have been living in an apartment above the Alumni House on WSU’s campus.[4] M. Roy Wilson has two children with his first wife Wendy; son Travis Yoshio and daughter Presley Rei.[3]
Education
M. Roy Wilson completed his undergraduate degree at Allegheny College in Meadville, Penn. in 1976. Soon after he was accepted to Harvard Medical School, where he received his M.D. in 1980. It was there he trained as an ophthalmologist and researcher.[3] M. Roy Wilson is an accomplished researcher, focused on glaucoma and blindness in West Africa, the Caribbean and urban communities in the United States.[5] Wilson has had a great appreciation for cultural diversity and multiculturalism, which has led him into the field of international ophthalmology; most of his scientific and service contributions have been in developing countries.[3] In 1985, M. Roy Wilson attended the University of California, Los Angeles to complete his Master’s Degree in epidemiology (1990).[6]
Career
In January 2012, M. Roy Wilson served as deputy director for strategic scientific planning and program coordination at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities of National Institutes of Health.[5] On June 5, 2012, M. Roy Wilson was elected President of Wayne State University.[7]
