"Chaser" is a song recorded by American singer and songwriter Carrie Underwood from her fifth studio album, Storyteller. The song was written by Underwood, Mike Elizondo, and Hillary Lindsey, with production from Jay Joyce.

"Chaser" will serve as the third single from the album, with a limited-release to the United Kingdom on April 1, 2016.[2] It marks Underwood's first exclusive release to European stations.

Composition and lyrics

"Chaser" is a pop song[1] that pertains to a breakup.[3] The woman in the song realizes that the man is a "chaser" - someone who is never satisfied and chases after another woman. Lyrics from the song include: "You're looking at me and thinking of her and it cuts me like a razor." The title is also a play on words, with the line "So go ahead and chase her".

Critical reception

Billboard highlighted Underwood's vocal performance, saying she "glides into skittery vocal patterns during the good-riddance anthem."[4] Spin complimented the song and said Underwood "further works the substance abuse theme."[3] Rolling Stone praised the song, writing that it "relies less on country twang and more on pop bang, with producer Jay Joyce layering drum loops and synthesizers into a Christina Aguilera-worthy chorus."[1]

Live performances

Underwood's first live performances of the song were during the European leg of the Storyteller Tour.[5] These included appearances at C2C: Country to Country festivals in England, Sweden, Scotland, and Norway.[6]
