John M. Evans (Wisconsin)

John M. Evans (February 12, 1820 – August 23, 1903) was a physician and politician.
Born in Addison, Vermont, Evans moved to La Porte, Indiana, where he was a carpenter. He later studied at La Porte Medical School and received his medical degree from there in 1846. Evans then moved to what is now Evansville, Wisconsin to practice medicine. Evans served as postmaster from 1852 to 1855. He also served as Mayor of Evansville. In 1853 and 1856, Evans served in the Wisconsin State Assembly. During the American Civil War, Evans was surgeon of the 13th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He died in Evansville, Wisconsin[1][2]
