Overall, 26 players have represented the Kenyan national cricket team in Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket.[1] Kenya made its Twenty20 International debut in September 2007, against Bangladesh, and later in the year participated in the 2007 World Twenty20, the inaugural edition of the tournament. The team played further T20Is in various bilateral series against other ICC associate members, and also at the World Twenty20 Qualifier, but has not yet qualified for another edition of the World Twenty20.[2] Kenya lost its T20I status in January 2014, at the same time losing its One Day International (ODI) status. This was a result of the team's performance at the 2014 World Cup Qualifier, where they placed fifth.[3] Kenya had made its ODI debut at the 1996 World Cup, against India, and had held ODI status since 1997..[4] The team's final Twenty20 International before losing its T20I status came against Canada at the 2013 World Twenty20 Qualifier.[2] Kenya will not have an opportunity to regain ODI or T20I status until 2018.[lower-alpha 1]

Notes

  1. Assuming the current format of the World Twenty20 is maintained, a global qualifier for the 2020 ICC World Twenty20 will be held in 2019, with the top six teams receiving T20I status if they do not already hold it. Kenya could also regain its T20I status by placing highly at the 2018 World Cup Qualifier, thus regaining its ODI status.
