Rajur is a census town in Yavatmal district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Rajur is also known as Rajur Colliery.

Geography

Rajur has an average elevation of 741 metres (2431 feet).[1]

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Rajur had a population of 11,677. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Rajur has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 62%. In Rajur, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Famous People

Anand Teltumbde is the most educated and famous person from Rajur. He studied in the local school and went on to study in Govt High School, Wani, Institute of Science, Nagpur,[3] Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad obtaining his doctoral degree in Cybernetics from University of Mumbai. He is India's noted civil rights activist, political analyst, writer, columnist, and public intellectual. He is professor of Management at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.

Dharmaraj Kisan Nimsarkar is the other famous son of Rajur known as Dalit poet, short story writer and novelist.
