High-speed lines in Europe

A high-speed railway line is a railway line specially built or updated to allow trains to run at over 200km/h.

Important considerations are that the minimum curve radius be sufficiently large to allow comfortable and safe operation at elevated speed, and often that the line must be devoid of grade crossings to minimize the chance of impact with roadway vehicles or animals.

Dedicated high-speed rail lines have been built in many countries and are planned for several others as well.
