Krupski (Belarusian: Крупскі, Polish: Krupski, Russian: Крупский, Ukrainian: Крупський, Lithuanian: Krupskis) - Belorussian[1] is a noble (gentry) family from Eastern Europe. This surname is popular in modern Poland.[2]

Origin of the Surname

The family Krupski was before the 14th century together with common practice for all noblemen in Europe.[3][clarification needed] It comes from the attachment to a personal name of hereditary nobles who owned the family nest[clarification needed] Krupe (now a village in Gmina Krasnystaw).[4] According to documentary texts in Latin and in Polish, the name was "de Krupe". In the 15th century under the influence of Slavic culture, in Polish texts there is definitely a modern form of the surname Krupski. Already in 1534, a Latin text contains the name "Crupsky".[5] in 1550 - "Crupski" (the Act of completing his studies at the Cracow University of Krupski Valery[6]). In the Old Belorussian and Russian texts of the 19th century - "Крупскій (Крупскі)" or "Крупский". Surnames in Russian Empire became standard later than noble, after the abolition of serfdom in 1861 (Peasant Reform in Russia).[7] Unique in the history of this family is Prince Krupski (Andrey Kurbsky).

Origin

The manuscript authoritative historian of the Polish Roman Catholic Bishop Jan Długosz (1415–1480) in the description of the emblem Korczak: ancestors Krupski - Korczak (in Latin - "Corczakowye"), and their nationality and ethnic origin - Rusyns (in Latin - "Genus Ruthenicum").[8]

The first known Ancestor of the emblem Korczak - Rusin, diplomat and military commander Krupski[9] Jerzy (1472–1548). He owned estates in Krupe "Chervona Rus" on land "Holmschina" (now - the village Krupe Gmina Krasnystaw Krasnystaw County Lublin Voivodeship Poland). There he founded the fort in 1492.[10] Provided the city the right to the little town Orchowo. In the battle with the Hungarians in Košice and Prešov (now - in Slovakia) in 1491-1492 saved by King John I Albert in battle, gave him his horse and sword (to escape persecution of enemies). Castellan city of Lviv in 1513, castellan city of Belz in 1515, with the 1509 canonik city of Lviv and canonik Belz and Cracow in 1518, restored for its money fortress Chełm town and the town of Belz, the starosta Holm city (Belz, Horodok, Hrubieszów - 1507) and governor "voivode" of the city of Belz in 1533; owner of the richest estates in "Chervona Rus" (now - Ukraine), Polish deputy, commissioner of the diplomatic service of King Sigismund I of Poland in obtaining an oath of loyalty to Bohdan Ruler of Wallachia in 1509, in 1514, he was ambassador to the Ottoman Sultan Selim I the Stern (1467–1520) signed him to a three-year Contract. He also in 1525 on behalf of Poland signed a truce with the princes of Pomerania (between Geh, Barney and Sigismund I the Old), signed an armistice at the Sejm "Piotrkowski". He was an adviser to King John I Albert (king of Poland 1492-1501) and Sigismund I the Old (king of Poland 1506-1548).

Having a relationship with the ancestors, descendants of the ancient clan Krupski's surname - House of Krupski (in the Polish historical sources - "Dom Krupskich byl wieku mego znaczny w Chelmskiem"[17]).

The surname Krupski was included in the Armorial (Polish: Herbarz) of the Rzeczpospolita, after 1413 Unia Grand Duchy of Lithuania with Poland.

The Register Zaporozhian Cossacks 1649 October 16 by King Jan II Casimir and Gentry Hetman Bogdan Khmelnitsky in Cossacks recorded gentlemen gentry:

  • Krupski Vasil[26] (Kanivsky Regiment) in one hundred and Ivan Bohun,
  • Krupski Olexa[27] (Kropivnyansky Regiment);
  • Krupski Leonti[28] (Nowicki Regiment) cornet at Gentry Hetman Ivan Mazepa (1697).
  • Krupski Yuri Afanasyevich - in the Smolensk gentry of Belarusian origin (September 19, 1654), Catholic nobleman ("Bringing to the cross" inscribed book of Polish and Muscovite people).[29]
  • Krupski - Cossack regiments Venitskoy hundreds Kalnitsky (Register of Zaporizhia army in 1649).[30]
  • Krupski Timis - Cossack Baturinsky battalion (Zaporizhia army Registry 1756).[31]

The genus is recognized in the Russian nobility of Mogilev province in 1799 March 16[34] and in 1811 November 12[35] as "a noble ancient noble families",[36] with the introduction of a 6 part Gentry Genealogy books (Russian: Дворянская Родословная Книга). A significant part of genus was not approved by the Russian nobility, and recorded in the tax paying class. Other branches of the family tree included in the Noble Genealogical Books Minsk,[37] Vitebsk,[38] Vilna,[39] Kovno,[40] Volhynia,[41] Podolia[42] and Kiev[43] Guberniya. Were members of the genus and the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Religion in the genus Krupski
was the Greek-Catholic (Uniates), Roman Catholic and Orthodox. In the Russian Empire after the repression[44] to the Unitarian faith, some have become Orthodox priests and parishioners. But in many countries are still descendants of the genus practiced Catholicism. In consequence of the influence of Protestantism and secularism in the last historical period there were some members of the genus professing Protestantism, or not practicing Christianity.

The family in the USSR

  • Nadezhda Krupskaya (wife of Vladimir Lenin), was a member of the family.
  • 772 people from the genus Krupski died in military service (in the army) during World War II (1939–1945).[45]
  • 90 people of the family Krupski were repressed by communist regime,[46] and subsequently rehabilitated (posthumously).[47]
  • Krupski Roman - a Polish officer in killed in the Katyn massacre by the NKVD (March–May 1940).

Forms of surnames

In the masculine form in the Belarusian language - "Крупскі", in Polish - "Krupski", in Russian - "Крупский", in Ukrainian - "Крупський"; and feminine spell the end of "-aya" (Krupskaya). Whereas in English-speaking countries (in exile) the surname is not written in the feminine, and write the same for men and women - "Krupski".

Geography

Modern representatives of the family (more than 2000 descendants) live mainly in Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine, Poland, Russia; later, a smaller portion live as emigres in Latvia, Estonia, Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Italy, USA (recorded first Krupski immigrants from Europe in 1880),[48] Canada, Australia, Moldova, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Israel, and Republic of South Africa.
