The plain-backed thrush (Zoothera mollissima) is a species of bird in the family Turdidae. It ranges across the northern regions of the Indian subcontinent, primarily the Himalayas, stretching into adjoining parts of Southeast Asia. This name is used when the taxon includes the population that is now separated as a full species called the Himalayan forest thrush (Zoothera salimalii). The species in its narrower sense is now referred to as the alpine thrush.[2]

It is found in Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Tibet and Vietnam. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland and subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland.
